Amit Jogi Gets Life Term In A 2003 Murder case That Refused To Fade
A political murder case from 2003 ne returned to the national spotlight after the Chhattisgarh High court sentenced former MLA Amit Jogi to life imprisonment.
The case relates to the killing of NCP leader Ramavatar Jaggi in Raipur. Amit Jogi, son of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi, had earlier been acquitted by a trial court in 2007, but that acquittal tha challenged through appeals and revision petitions.
A special division bench of the High court ne ab overturned the acquittal and convicted him on charges including criminal conspiracy and murder with common intention, reports ke mutabik. The court ne directed him to surrender within three weeks.
Yeh hai legally significant because the case ne had a long and complicated path, including CBI investigation, allegations of political conspiracy, and prolonged litigation. Amit Jogi ne moved the Supreme court, which ne admitted the matter, but reports kehte hain no interim relief ne been granted so far.
Before publishing, editors should keep the language precise: this hai a High court conviction, and the next important legal step hai the Supreme court hearing scheduled later in April.
